National Running Day Discounts

If you are anything like me, you look forward to this day!  Not just to celebrate all things running, but for the various discounts that can be found on races.

For me, I celebrate running everyday.  It really has transformed my life.  It has given me so many things…

A way to stay fit.  Time to myself.  Goals.  Health benefits.  Reasons to travel.  Reasons to make new friends.  So many things….

Running has taught me patience, and understanding.  I has taught me how to breathe and relax.  It has taught me how to push myself further than I ever thought possible.  Running has given me a real zest for life.

Why do you run?  Fill in the blank!  And don’t just say you run for the bling.  Running is way bigger than just a medal.

Finally with a day off, my post today is all about randomness.  So many things to discuss, but not enough time.  You see, I have pretty much been working nonstop the last three weeks, so today this is me!

I usually don’t watch a whole lot of TV, especially during the mornings and afternoon.  Lucky for me though, I have something awesome to watch on TV as I rest my weary feet.  The French Open!  You see, I am a diehard tennis player/fan, so spending time watching a Major on television is pure joy for me today.  Roger Federer just lost, but one of my favorite women won today and is on to the Semifinals.

Yep, Ana Ivanovic from Serbia.  She won the whole thing back in 2008, and I was instantly a fan.  So much fun to watch her play, especially when she is playing well!

In between folding loads of laundry and cleaning up the kitchen, I have been working on fundraising efforts for the James Blake Foundation.  I currently have three dirt bikes listed on Craigslist and all proceeds from the sale of these bikes will be donated to this charity.  You can make a donation to this awesome charity fighting the good fight against cancer with amazing research.  I am currently working with Angie from https://marathang.wordpress.com.   Promoting her headband business, we came up with a few styles currently for sale on her website.  She is donating half of the proceeds from the sale of these headbands to my fundraiser, so any donation $10 and up will score you a headband.

In addition to relaxing today, and getting a few chores done, I got a neat email a little while ago.  I’ve been selected to return for a second year as an ambassador for the All American Marathon!  A race that is a ton of fun to run and represent, this military event is taking place April 2, 2016 and runs from Fayetteville, NC into Ft. Bragg.

So proud to be a part of this amazing race!

So, what kind of hodgepodge of things have you gotten yourself into today?  Don’t forget that tomorrow is National Running Day, and quite often you can score some great deals on running shoes, apparel and even discounted race entries.  I know that Rock n Roll is offering a discount on many of its races tomorrow.  Have you seen any others?  Please share here if you have!

Run your heart out! Today is our day!

Happy Running Day to all of my readers!  Did you get out there and run?  Let’s face it, you don’t have to express your love for running just today.  I am taking the day off today so that I can run tomorrow.  Still recovering from my lackluster Half marathon on Sunday.  Still nursing the hamstrings.  I have back to back races in three days, so I am trying to do what my body needs to be able to perform at my best this weekend.

I really just wanted to wish you all happy running.  It doesn’t matter if you run today or not, or take advantage of race discounts today or not.  The true spirit of runners doesn’t just happen on one specific day of the year, it happens every day.  As long as you run happy, and run with your heart, our sport will be long lived.

If nothing else, enjoy your running and run to inspire.

National Running Day 2014

I wanted to let you know about a very well kept secret.  A special day for runners all over the United States.  Not many know about this special holiday created just for runners like you and me.  Why not celebrate our sport?  There is basically a holiday for everything else, so why not a holiday for running?  If we have a special day set aside to celebrate yogurt, or square dancing or lady bugs, all the more power to running enthusiasts to mark a special day.

National Running Day is typically the first Wednesday of the month of June every year.  Well, this special day will be upon us very soon.  Just two weeks from today.  Mark your calendars!  Set an appointment for yourself or a reminder on your phone, for when June 4th arrives, you will not want to miss the festivities.

Group runs, charity runs, donating miles across America to shed more light upon the sport that we love.  Get more involved, help spread the word.  Take part in a run, and show how popular our sport is.  Get others involved.  Inspire others through your own efforts.  There will be a lot of runners out there on June 4th, running just because.  Running to stay healthy, get fitter, training for that next race. It will be a big day.

National Running Day is also a day to get great discounts on upcoming races.  Look for them.  Visit race websites that day.  Bookmark race websites, and keep your eyes on emails, Twitter and Facebook that day.  Many, many races will offer special race discounts that day.  I scored a few unbeatable 50% off discounts on marathons last year on National Running Day.  It will be worth it, promise!  I paid $40 each, and registered for two marathons last year on our special holiday.  I am ready to spend some time on my computer June 4th, but will save some time that day to get a nice run in as well.

Happy National Running Day, in advance!  Enjoy our holiday!

National Running Day

ImageToday is a day to celebrate!  To celebrate our own achievements, and the achievements of others.  It all has to start somewhere though, so I challenge all runners to inspire others in their search for fitness and health.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been stopped or given thumbs up from others, thanking me for inspiring them to get off the couch and walk or run.  I have run in my hilly neighborhood too many times to count, and obviously the neighbors notice.  Our actions, just through getting out on the pavement, do affect others.  We can inspire without even knowing it.  A quiet way, just our foot strikes, often times inspire others to lace up their shoes.  I love knowing that we, as a community of fitness freaks, can sometimes unknowingly, have an amazing impact on someone else’s life.  So, today, celebrate yourself with a run, and inspire others to join our awesome community.  We have a great opportunity not only today, but everyday to change the world, one run at a time.
